PAU, France (AP) Tour de France riders have started the second leg in the Pyrenees, heading for the grueling Col d'Aubisque pass and a finish in the Catholic shrine town of Lourdes.

A day after his main rivals gained seconds on him, defending champion Alberto Contador of Spain hopes for stronger legs Friday in Stage 13 - a 95-mile jaunt from Pau to Lourdes.

Contador faced pressure Thursday in the Pyrenean entree from attacks by bold brothers Andy and Frank Schleck. Thomas Voeckler of France has the yellow jersey; he leads second-place Frank Schleck of Luxembourg by 1 minute, 49 seconds. Australia's Cadel Evans is third, 2:06 back.
