Rebellin posts 1st win since doping ban

Updated: August 16, 2011, 14:12

CAMPIONE D'ITALIA, Italy (AP) Cyclist Davide Rebellin has won his first race since completing his two-year ban for doping at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Rebellin sprinted away from fellow Italian Domenico Pozzovivo on the final climb to the line in the Tre Valli Varesine race.

Rebellin returned to racing in April with the Miche-Guerciotti team and turned 40 a week ago. He was stripped of his Olympic silver medal after testing positive for the advanced blood booster CERA and always maintained his innocence.

After the win, Rebellin said he came back because he felt he "still had something to give to this sport.''
