Contador's team first off in Tour time trial

Updated: July 03, 2011, 09:17

LES ESSARTS, France (AP) Defending champion Alberto Contador and his Saxo Bank teammates have set off first in the second stage of the Tour de France, a 23-kilometer team time trial around Les Essarts in the Vendee region of western France.

Tour leader Philippe Gilbert's Omega Pharma-Lotto outfit will be the last to take off as the teams start in reverse order of their standings.

After a dismal first stage that saw him lose more than a minute to the other main contenders, the Spaniard could lose more time Sunday as his team is not one of the best in the race against the clock.

Contador was slowed by a crash near the finish of the first stage and stands 82nd overall, 1:20 behind Gilbert.
