MILAN (AP) Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador says he is unlikely to defend his Giro d'Italia title in 2012.

Contador won this year's edition of the famous race but followed it up with a disappointing Tour de France, where he finished fifth.

And the Saxo-Bank rider said Sunday at the unveiling of next year's course that the French classic is likely to take precedence for him in 2012.

Contador says "I don't think I will ride in the Giro, it will be very difficult. It's very difficult to do both the Giro and the Tour. Maybe in two years' time.''

The third stage of next year's Giro will be dedicated to Belgian cyclist Wouter Weylandt, who died after a fall during this year's race.

The 2012 Giro will run from May 5-27.
